The Vanessa Aegirsdottir brand is a corporation owned by George Bahm and Vanessa Ægirsdóttir in Whitehorse, Yukon. George is Tlingit (First Nations) and is the majority shareholder. The brand appears as "æ", "vanessa aegirsdottir" and "aegirsdottir". The company was founded in 2018.

All of the jewelry and accessories are made by hand in our studio in Whitehorse Yukon using exclusively Indigenous-harvested Wild Yukon Furs; lynx, wolf, wolverine, marten, muskrat, fox, beaver, squirrel and ermine. Whenever possible, Vanessa (who is a certified trapper) is involved in the harvesting of the furs whether that's out on the trapline with George or in the skinning shed (also with George).

We define "Indigenous-sourced" as meeting one of three criteria:

1. The trapper self-identifies as Indigenous
2. The trapper assists on a trap line held by either Indigenous individuals or on group (community) lines
3. The trapper has Indigenous folks in their family or inner circle who work with them to decolonize their approach to harvesting and the overall world view

In the event that we cannot find the furs we need from folks who satisfy those criteria, we will consider furs from outside those parameters on a case-by-case basis.
