I never thought I’d write a sentence like this, but here we are: I launched a podcast about death with my best friend who has Alzheimer’s.
Yep. You read that right.
Too Cute to Die is a darkly funny, brutally honest podcast about all the messy, complicated, hilarious, devastating stuff no one prepares you for — death, terminal illness, mental health, addiction, recovery, perimenopause, and the everyday chaos of being human.
It’s hosted by me (Vanessa — artist, business owner, professional crier) and my best friend of 40+ years, Rebecca — a vibrant, hilarious, painfully honest, pink-lipstick-wearing mother, creator, and advocate living with young onset Alzheimer’s.
What we're trying to do with this episode is live fully while falling apart.
The craziest part is that we laugh the whole way through - and honestly, the more inappropriate the joke, the harder we cackle!
What’s it actually about?
This thing is part time capsule, part therapy, part stand-up, but it couldn't be more sincere
In our first episodes, we talk about:
- Rebecca’s MAiD journey (Medical Assistance in Dying)
- Forgetting what the hell we’re talking about mid-sentence
- Grieving things before they’re gone
- What we want people to know before they die (or before we do)
There are F-bombs. There are fire alarms. There is cake.
We are entirely unfiltered. We are totally transparent. We're inviting you into recordings of what could easily be mistaken for FaceTime calls.
Why we made this show
The clock is ticking — for all of us, but especially for Beck. We wanted to create something raw and real and funny and useful in that weird way that only the most honest conversations can be. Something that lets her voice, her stories, and her wisdom live on — for her kids, her grandbabies, and for everyone else who might be spiraling, grieving, laughing, healing, or just trying to make sense of the dumpster fire we call life.
It’s also selfish. I wanted a record of our friendship. Of her voice. Of the things we’ve survived and the things we still have to say.
